Uber-Judge Kalico-sama

With SEVEN days to go on the clock for the final round, we’re happy to present to you KALICO, one of our senior uber-judges on Clash .

1. Where did you get your username from?

An alien ant farm song called “Calico“. It was High school. We all do stupid things in High School. My username used to be kalicodreamz when AP was just a forum. Right before we made the big switchroo to the gallery version, I changed it to just “kalico” since that’s what everyone called me.

2. What got you started on walling?

I don’t really remember. I know I wanted to start using Photoshop more, and just found it as a really good way of learning and keeping my skills sharp. Then i came across the original AP forum and joined.

3. From your biography, it seems you attended a trade school for the arts. What style of art did you focus on?

Animation. I’m a professional animator and I specialize in traditional handdrawn as well as hand-drawn flash and flash rigs.

4. If you had to describe your walling style in one sentence, what would it be?

Probably scenic grunge. Although I like to try stuff out here and there.

5. Do you have any plans for grad school, and if so, what would you consider studying next?

Yep, I’ll be going back to SCAD for my MFA in animation once time allows. Probably within the next year or two, but not full time.

6. What kind of (Real Life) work do you do now?

I’m actually in the process of switching jobs. Yesterday was my last day at AT&T as a web designer, and I’ll be beginning my new job as a flash and Photoshop designer at WebMD in a week or so. I also do a lot of animation freelance for places like fox and national geographic.

7. What’s your current desktop?

At work, a wallpaper of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, at home, that wall omnidevil made of a fanart of miku that was taken off of AP.

8. I’ve always admired many of your walls, and have missed seeing them on AP. Do you think you’ll be picking it up again in the future?

Thanks, I’m glad you liked them. Maybe. I’d like to do it again, and I have a bunch of walls I’ve started but never had the chance to finish. I’m hoping to maybe finish one up this week while I’m off. I’m just not really enjoying very many new series of anime lately other than like…Fairy Tail and House of Five leaves. It’s left me pretty uninspired. And then there’s the whole “no time cause I’m a workaholic” thing…

9. Are there any AP wallers who you particularly admire?

I always admired nat, taters and of course xeno even though he only made 2 walls, haha.

10. Who’s your favorite anime character, and in what series?

hmmm…tough one. It changes a lot, so I’ll just say currently it’s Gray from Fairy Tail, and Alto from Macross Frontier. And everyone ever from RahXephon.

11. If you were walling this round, which walls would you consider as your source of inspiration?

Well, unfortunately since I started walling so long ago, the walls that were an inspiration for me are mostly gone from the internet. The stuff that inspired me was the old stuff from nat (especially her kiddy grade stuff), bantam, redxxii, and abstract anime. It’s been so long that I can’t site specific examples, haha.

12. Any particular expectations for the final round?

Well, I just expect to be blown away by some awesome walls
