Theme: “The Human Condition”
What does it mean to be human?
Deadline: 11:59PM EDT (GMT -4) on July 10, 2010
Round Coordinator: Jay
We wanted to start off the competition with a broad theme that’s open to creative interpretation – and there are many, many paths you can take with this. On the art history side, Wiki references René Magritte, famous surrealist artist who aimed to “challenge observers’ preconditioned perceptions of reality.” On the religious side, themes like the Seven Sins (and Seven Virtues) not only defines humanity on Earth, but also life after death. And finally on the anime side, series like Ghost in the Shell, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Kino no Tabi all grappled with issues of human dreams, struggles, mortality… or in a nutshell, all the things that make us human.
The sky is the limit with this theme, so go crazy with it! There are NO limitations on what scans to use, as long as the source images adhere to AP rules. So heck, if you feel like a wall with Mokona would best convey what it means to be human, go ahead and use a Mokona scan! You can also use your own original (anime) artwork if you like, again, as long as the image adheres to AP guidelines.
You MAY (but are not required to) submit an accompanying description with your wall which explains how you interpreted the round theme. No need to include the technical stuff like what you did and how long you spent on the wall – keep it simple and straightforward for our uber judges!
Elimination Challenge Rules Recap:
- Entries must be a minimum of 1600×1200 (standard) or 1920×1200 (widescreen) res
- Entries must be NEW
- Email a sigged AND unsigged version of your wallpaper to apclash2010@gmail.com, along with any links to the original scan(s) used.
- You may NOT submit your wallpapers to comms, personal websites, or anywhere on the internets until judging is complete and round results are announced.
- Early submissions are always welcome
- Late submissions will receive a -5 point deduction per day
- Late submissions will NOT be accepted more than three days after the round deadline.
If for whatever reason you can’t participate in an elimination round, please contact the Round Coordinator and let her know you won’t be able to submit a wall, no later than FIVE days after the round theme is announced. This is so we can invite a wildcard waller to take your place!

Don’t worry, your unsigged walls are safe with me. Only your sigged ones will ever see the sun while they’re in my hands (and even then, only small thumbnails – YOU GUYS get to do the uploading, as is your right).
We also want sigged for when announcing the results, so we can post with your sigged walls then and not have the unsigged version floating about the internets xD;
We need your sigs in the email somewhere so we can organize you guys ^^. And also, just so you know, only the Round coordinator (in this case, me) knows what entries belong to whom.

I got the meaning of that from “The Human Condition” painting. It is most likely that the use of only the “sky” is the limit of how far you can go with the human condition (how you express it). Like it’s currently empty/dark/sad whatever, you name it. Although, I doubt anyone would do it like that XD

Any character, form, etc is fine. The only requirement is that it relates to “the human condition” in some way (doesn’t even have to be a human figure as long as it makes sense with the theme!)
